Jason Heyward returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers active roster on Friday, following a long layoff due to a back injury that kept him on the shelf. Having not appeared in a game since March 30 against the St. Louis Cardinals, Heyward's first action was a huge weight off his shoulders. “Awesome to be back out there, I never take that for granted, playing the game,” Heyward said. In his rehab stint before returning, Heyward logged just seven plate appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
James Outman, who finished third in last year’s NL Rookie of the Year voting, was demoted to the minors as part of multiple roster moves by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The 27-year-old center fielder was hitting .148 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 36 games this season. Last year, Outman had 23 homers and 70 RBI as the team's primary center fielder.
The Dodgers announced that 24-year-old right-hander Emmet Sheehan underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery.
