Aaron Nola pitches Phillies to win No. 30

Aaron Nola retired the first 15 batters he faced Tuesday afternoon. “Once we were rolling,” Stubbs said, “it really did feel at one point — even though we were only into the sixth —that maybe we were going to go for a no-no with the way his stuff was going.” Nola fell short of perfection but delivered his best outing of the season, throwing a complete game four-hit shutout as the Phillies beat the New York Mets 4-0 at Citi Field.

Thanks to the Television Broadcast, a Swath of Phillies Fans Now Oddly Angry at Garrett Stubbs

When a team is going as well as the Phillies have been going – and a 5-4, come-from-behind win in extra innings against the Mets in New York on Monday was the latest example of just how well – it's easy to start hunting around, looking for something that makes you want to question your own good fortune. Never mind the fact that the Phillies were without three star players in the lineup against the Mets and have been trying to win games with their depth players for several games now. Consider me gob smacked to see so much vitriol being directed in the direction of Garrett Stubbs. Yep, the backup catcher is taking the arrows of the fans who don't have their bow and quiver locked away while the team is in the midst of one of its best starts ever.
