Game 40: Nationals at Red Sox lineups and notes as Brayan Bello returns

The Red Sox have just about managed to tread water at .500 despite all their injuries, but they're finally getting a big piece back for Sunday's series finale against the Nationals. Brayan Bello was activated from the 15-day injured list and will take the ball on Sunday. Washington will turn to southpaw Mackenzie Gore for the rubber match.

  • Several Scans Here Today

I need to try to get caught up, so I will be combining a bunch of packages into this post. 1. J.D. Martinez. Martinez recently made news upon hitting Wilson Contreras with his swing, breaking Contreras's arm. 2. Bobby Dalbec. Dalbec has been extremely frustrating this season. He struggles greatly at the Major League level. Boston is having difficulty finding a first-baseman to fill in for Triston Casas. 3. Michael Chavis. Chavis is playing for the Mariners' minor league team and hitting well. 4. Ted Williams. My favorite stat of all time is Ted Williams's career .483 OBP. That is really crazy. 5. J.D. Martinez. 6. Xander Bogaerts. Bogaerts is struggling greatly in his second season in San Diego.

Offensive struggles on the road nothing new for these Red Sox, whose cold nights rival some of baseball's worst

“Look at the shutouts and the percentage of games where we haven't scored more than two runs,” he said. The Sox have scored two runs or fewer in 14 of their 37 games, losing 12, but it gets worse. The Red Sox, meanwhile, have one of the best pitching staffs in the majors to date, leading the big leagues in starter (2.33) and overall (2.72) ERA. “It's early in the season,” said Kutter Crawford after the Sox lost Tuesday despite his holding Atlanta to two runs over six innings.
