Defenseman Jordan Leopold, acquired in the deal that sent the rights to defenseman Jay Bouwmeester to Calgary, signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers on Thursday. The Panthers were very active at the draft, making a deal with Calgary that brought them a third-round pick as well as trading with Los Angeles to secure two more mid-round picks.
The Calgary trade was what had people talking, however, as Florida sent the negotiating rights to All-Star defenseman Jay Bouwmeester to the Flames in exchange for the third round pick and the negotiating rights to pending free agent Jordan Leopold.
Florida signed Leopold to a one-year deal on July 2, and the Flames were able to secure Bouwmeester to a long-term deal.
When the free agency period opened, Florida was active, although the team doesn't appear to be any better off than it was when last season ended. ...More |
